Covid-19: C.Woermann supports local residents in Avenor

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) with support from C. Woermann (Ghana) Limited has distributed assorted food items to some 400 residents especially impacted by Covid-19 in the Avenor district of Accra.

Rice, oil, tin tomatoes and other items were presented to disadvantaged citizens such as elderly residents, persons with disabilities (PWDs) as well as pregnant women.

Says C. Woermann’s Managing Director Carsten Düwer: „We have been located in Avenor for over 30 years now and feel part of the community. That’s why it was an easy decision for us to support the Assembly when we received the request.“

Hon. Alfred Asiedu Adjei, Presiding Member for the Assembly before the distribution expressed his appreciation to C. Woermann Ghana for responding to the call by the assembly to support the vulnerable in society. Mr Adjei said the food items were critical needs of the people and had come at an opportune time since most vulnerable people especially the aged, PWDs and pregnant women may be out of work.

He disclosed that the decision to support the vulnerable was reached after a series of engagements between the company, the AMA and community leaders adding, the company acknowledges the challenges of residents especially the disadvantaged in society.

Mr Alex Donkor, a beneficiary, expressed his appreciation to the AMA and C. Woermann Ghana for the support and urged others to emulate the gesture since the outbreak of the pandemic had rendered most of his colleague PWDs jobless.
